Things I Am Sitting With: January 2026

A non-exhaustive list of things I am sitting with (comfortably or not):

✮ Relaxing my shoulders

✮ Taking deep breaths

✮ Moving slowly and with intention

✮ Doing things just for the sake of doing them

✮ Letting go of outcomes

✮ Leaning on things that make me happy - even if it doesn't make sense

✮ Drafts of my work instead of one half-calculated document

✮ Actually LOOKING at things instead of simply passing them by

In January I am sitting with boredom. I am looking her right in the eyes, and I am trying to become comfortable with the silence. She has been watching me for quite some time, she glares at me from afar. I try to outrun her piercing gaze, but at the end of the night, she is always sitting on my couch in my living room. What I thought was a simple staring contest turned out to be something much deeper. Behind the veil of stillness and sinister energy, boredom is beautiful. I have been trying to run away from her for so long that I realized I had never truly looked at her. She sits calmly, nestled in self assurance. She moves slowly, but intentionally - I never thought I could be envious of boredom, but I have seen the light here. 

Nowadays, I sit with her in the mornings and we eat breakfast together. She and I brush our hair the same way, we even have the same laugh. It's been a short relationship so far, but I can feel myself opening up to it. Sometimes when it's quiet enough, she whispers to me. She is a woman of few words, but when she whispers, I can feel her ideas filling up what I thought was a lost cup inside of me. She can see something in me that I cannot see right now, and as much as I hate the idea of anyone getting a good look at me, I have learned to make my peace with her.

In other news, I have rediscovered some cult classics this month through my rewatching of Glee (2009), and She’s Gotta Have It (2017). Here are some of the songs I have had on repeat and I encourage you to take a good listen to some of them, as some are a bit eclectic ✮✮✮✮
